social justice, economic systems, & environmental sustainability

For the practitioner, natural dyes are closely related to an intimate knowledge of the land, and a respect for the natural cycles of growth and regeneration. Operating outside of mainstream textile production, natural dyes offer the potential for environmentally sustainable production that is based on ethical practices and alternative economic systems. In this second section of the exhibition, artists explore the relationship of colour to land, looking at relationships between colour and environmental and/or socio-economic impact, investigating local production possibilities + indigenous practices, and reflecting the richness of regional plant colour in their work.
